Sanford Residential Historic District

Where the Porch Carries the Christmas Display

Between 3rd and 14th Streets, from Elm to Sanford Avenue, the historic district holds hundreds of Queen Anne, Colonial Revival and bungalow homes. Many sit close to the sidewalk behind a front porch, so a display gets judged at walking pace. Columns, rails and the porch eave carry most of it.

Original Wood Trim Stays Free of Nails and Staples

Strands hang on clips sized to the surface they grip, so nothing is driven into original fascia or porch trim. Columns are wrapped rather than fastened, and in January every clip comes off, leaving the old wood exactly as you found it.

Rooflines, Oaks, Palms and the Lake Side, Planned Together

The roofline gives a display its shape. Wrapped oaks and palm trunks add depth, and the front entry is where guests actually pause, so each element is chosen with the others in mind. On homes facing Lake Monroe or the St. Johns River, the water side is drawn as a separate view and itemized on its own.

  • Rooflines, gables and dormers
  • Porch posts, rails and eaves
  • Live oaks wrapped trunk to limb
  • Palm trunks, base to crown
  • Door wreaths and porch garland
  • Foundation shrubs and bed lines
  • Lake-facing rear elevations
  • Storefronts and HOA entrances
For the roofline alone, a permanent roofline lighting system can replace the yearly hang, running everyday white most nights and holiday color whenever you choose it.

Guard Gates, Long Drives and Architectural Review

West of Interstate 4, Lake Forest, Buckingham Estates and Estates at Wekiva Park sit behind gates on larger homesites, many under mature oaks. A display there is planned for a longer approach and for a community's own guidelines, and every visit is set with you before a crew reaches the gate.

  • Gate and vendor accessTell us how your community clears vendors. The consultation, install day, any service call and January removal are each scheduled with you ahead of time.
  • Holiday guidelinesSome associations set rules on timing, color or decorations. Share yours at the consultation and the design is drawn inside them from the start.
  • The approach firstOn a deep lot, the drive is seen before the house. Lighting the trees along it gives the approach a rhythm and makes the front door the destination.
  • Entrance displaysAn association board can add its front entrance and common areas, designed, serviced and stored by the same crew from November through January.

Lake Monroe Wind Has Nothing to Slow It

Lake Monroe stretches miles across, so a December front pushes wind over open water with nothing in its way. Homes near the shore and along the St. Johns take the full force of it. If a run shifts or a section goes dark afterward, call, and the crew returns to reset it.

How a Sanford Display Goes Up and Comes Down

01

Walk the property

Brad Sloan arrives with the demo trailer, as at every consultation, and walks each side of the house with you.

02

Design and price

You get a plan that names every roofline, tree and porch detail, with a price beside each before any date is set.

03

Install and review

The crew hangs the display, then you look at it together after sunset and anything uneven is reset.

04

Remove and store

After the holidays every strand and clip comes down, gets labeled, and waits in our storage until next November.

Lit before Light Up SanfordThe city lights the Magnolia Square tree in early December. Installs start in early November and fill in request order, so October bookings choose first.

Questions From Porches, Lakefronts and Gated Streets

We host on Parade of Lights night. Will the house be lit by then?

Yes, with an early booking. The Holiday Parade of Lights runs down First Street in mid-December, roughly six weeks after installs begin, so an October consultation leaves ample room for design and install.

Do you work on both sides of I-4?

Yes. Crews work in the historic district and downtown east of the interstate, and in Lake Forest, Buckingham Estates and the other gated communities to the west, across 32771 and 32773.

Can our First Street storefront get a display too?

Yes. Sloan Lighting Solutions designs and installs holiday lighting for downtown shops, restaurants and offices, scheduled around opening hours and taken down after the season.

Is the consultation free?

Yes. Brad Sloan shows real fixtures from the demo trailer at your home, then you receive an itemized design and decide from there.

What changes the price on a Sanford home?

Roofline length, two-story access, how many oaks or palms are wrapped, and whether a porch, entrance or water side is added. Each appears as its own line on the estimate.

Can you wrap our live oaks without harming them?

Yes. Wraps sit loosely on the trunk and main limbs so nothing binds the bark, and every wrap comes off in January along with the rest of the display.
